Preventing tooth loss

We lose teeth for many reasons, including falls, accidents and sports-related injuries. Most of the time, it’s due to poor dental health. Here are some tips on how to keep your natural teeth in good condition, whatever your age:

  • Brush your teeth first thing in the morning and before bedtime and floss at least once a day.

  • Limit the amount of sugar you consume. If you drink pop or alcohol and smoke (tobacco, marijuana, vaping), try to cut back if you can’t quit.

  • Stay hydrated with water. Sipping water throughout the day will help keep your mouth moist and wash away food and drink residue and cavity-causing bacteria. It will also help offset dry mouth that can happen from some medications.

  • Visit your dentist/periodontist for regular cleanings and check-ups. They can spot things you can’t and treat problems before they get worse.
